Crafts

Sherpa made amazing looking crafts. They built firm, lovely furniture, and amazing entertainment and paintings. They also built something called a thaa, which is a weaving loom. They also built a khurshing. A kurshing is a backpack frame. A backpack frame holds up your backpack so it won’t lag down. The craftsmen that knew how to do the crafts are slowly going away. As technology is growing, less Sherpa know how to do these amazing crafts. These Sherpa are giving up the wonderful knowledge they once had about the beautiful crafts. I think the Sherpa’s lifestyle was a lot better before.

Animals in Salt Trade

The Sherpa people used animals to trade for different goods. They made animals help them with this treacherous task to because it was extremely difficult to climb up the steep mountains. Some of the animals that were used were yaks, naks, cows and horses some of the qualities were that the animals had to be strong, tough and hoofed. The Sherpa people traded to earn goods. The main item that they traded was salt. Salt was imported from India and was then traded to nearby villages. Sherpas’ Trade

Trade was an important part of the traditional Sherpa lifestyle. It functioned as a way to earn food, animals and furniture. Not only did it provide these things, but it also allowed the people to interact with others from different villages. The most important thing traded was salt. Salt was almost a form of money to the Sherpa people. Salt could be traded for anything, if it was given in large amounts; whole meals even! No matter the weather (Which since it is Nepal, it’s COLD!) many people made the trip to trade for anything that they needed, or were out of. Even though salt was a main item used in trade, it was not the extent of trading in Sherpa villages. They also traded the crafts that they made with their own hands for goods at the market or on their trade route. Whether it was trading for salt, crafts, or livestock, Sherpas’ trade played a big part in obtaining supplies. Trade is a great thing that the Sherpas thrived on.
